In 2023, there will be five new Dungeons & Dragons books that cover diverse subjects, including new adventures, settings, and sourcebooks.
The upcoming books will explore both unique and original niches and traditional roots of the game. Recent playtest materials offer a hint of what fans can expect. Keys from the Golden Vault will be the first adventure anthology to be released in 2023, featuring heist-themed adventures that stand out from the many already available for D&D 5th edition.
Keys from the Golden Vault
The first book, Keys from the Golden Vault, will feature a series of heist-themed adventures. This anthology will provide a perfect opportunity for DMs and players to establish their own criminal empire. Although the concept of heists has been introduced before in Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, Keys from the Golden Vault promises to live up to its name.
Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants
The second book, Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants, will be a sourcebook focusing on the lore and history of the game’s most memorable fantastical creatures, giants. DMs and players will have a range of options to choose from to enhance their game, including new character options, flavorful new monsters, magic items, and systems.
Phandelver Campaign Book
The third book will be a full-length campaign book expanding on the Lost Mine of Phandelver adventure that was included in DnD 5th Edition’s original Starter Set. The new Phandelver Campaign Book promises to offer a cosmic horror campaign that has been expanded to fit higher-level play and the cosmic nature of recent products. Although little information was provided, the book is sure to offer a wealth of new content to appeal to new and veteran players alike.
The upcoming 2023 Dungeons & Dragons book, The Book of Many Things, will provide players with a new level of weirdness inspired by the Deck of Many Things, one of the game’s most chaotic magic items. The book includes new options for both players and dungeon masters, including “Deck of Many Things” spells introduced in 2022 playtest material. The book promises to offer an abundance of inspiration for tables looking to up the ante and embrace the chaos in their campaigns.
New Planescape DnD Book
Dungeons & Dragons (DnD) will release a new Planescape book in 2023, marking the return of the classic DnD setting from the game’s 2nd Edition. The concept, which focuses on cosmic affairs, is being reintroduced to coincide with the expanding multiverse of DnD. The new version will provide extensive lore about the disparate planes, with particular focus on Sigil, the City of Doors. Sigil is a hub for the planes, inhabited by various factions and creatures from different worlds, similar to DnD’s newly-introduced Radiant Citadel. Planescape’s release later this year will appeal to veteran players eager to return to Sigil and new players seeking more outlandish options.
