The upcoming season of The Rookie is generating buzz as it is set to feature a co-star from Nathan Fillion’s recent movie, The Suicide Squad. The show, which airs on ABC, follows the story of John Nolan, played by Fillion, who becomes a rookie cop with the LAPD at the age of 45. Over the years, the show has featured several notable guest stars, and the upcoming season promises to be no different.
According to TVLine’s Matt Webb Mitovich, David Dastmalchian, who played Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad, is set to appear in a two-part episode of The Rookie season 6. Showrunner Alexi Hawley expressed his excitement at having the film star join the cast of the drama series.
It is worth noting that Nathan Fillion also appeared in The Suicide Squad, albeit briefly, as The Detachable Kid (TDK). With both Fillion and Dastmalchian having worked together in the movie, fans are eagerly anticipating their on-screen chemistry in The Rookie.
Numerous individuals who have worked with Nathan Fillion in the past have made appearances on The Rookie
Dastmalchian is not the sole former co-star of Fillion’s to grace The Rookie with their presence. Throughout the show’s run, actors from Fillion’s previous series, Firefly and Castle, have also made appearances. Some of the notable guest stars include Alan Tudyk as a crime scene cleaner, Tamala Jones as officer Aaron Thorsen’s mother, and Seamus Dever as a drug purchaser.
Aside from those directly associated with Fillion, The Rookie has also featured other notable guest stars in various roles throughout its seasons. Some played themselves, like Mario Lopez, who was stopped for a traffic violation, and Will.i.am, whose silent alarm went off in his house. Others played unique roles beyond regular cameos, such as Pete Davidson as Nolan’s half-brother (also named Pete) and Joel McHale as a border patrol agent turned human trafficker.
Given the diverse range of guest appearances on The Rookie, it is difficult to predict what role Dastmalchian will play. He could be portraying anyone from a major criminal to a fellow police officer. As he is set to appear in two consecutive episodes, his presence will likely heavily influence the LAPD’s handling of the crime at hand. More information may be revealed as the undated crossover approaches, possibly during new episodes of the show airing on Tuesday nights on ABC.
